Geo Business 2021 – building brand awareness

Geo Business 2021 – building brand awareness

Geo Business 2021 was held at London Excel on November 24th-25th with over 100 exhibitors presenting live. A definitive highlight of the event was having people tell us they were advised to visit us because of our expertise in digitalization in the industry. Notable mentions are Hexagon and Makin’ 3D.

Our VP of Business Development Pasi Joensuu recalls from the event “The best meeting, I had was when a surveyor came to us with challenges regarding multi-fleets and their manager came to continue that conversation and how to share data in a multi brand environment the following day. Another highlight was when several consultants came to us for advice on how we can provide better information on project progress to the owner.”

“Overall, the feeling after the event is positive, all the conversations we had at the booth were relevant to us. Visitor demographic ranged from university professors to students, machinery salespeople and construction professionals on many levels. A personal highlight for me was when one of our partner’s division leader followed me to let me know they have not forgotten about us; we will get back to this in January” he continues.

Map tile manager

New map tile manager enables multiple WMS/WMTS sources and multiple drone flights to be visualized at one view. Ordering tool allows setting the layers to desired order and transparency slider makes it easier to detect deviations between map tile sets. This can be used to trace progress or to analyze many initial data sources at one view.

Shape file support

Now it is possible to bring GIS data to Infrakit in Shape format. This enables visualization of initial data together with other data sources, such as map tiles and design data in the same view. The video below illustrates how areas, lines and points are visualized on 2D and 3D views of Infrakit.

Stringline models for 3D visualization

LandXML stringline models turn alive in the 3D view of Infrakit. Stringline model means continuous surfaces created from set of independent breaklines. Stringline models are widely used for machine control, especially in Norway. New features enable more powerful model checking before files are sent for machinery. Thanks to cloud access, visualisation is also possible to stakeholders who are not familiar with, or do not have access to modeling tools.

BIM World Munich with a focus on connecting with stakeholders

BIM World Munich with a focus on connecting with stakeholders

Since 2016, BIM World MUNICH has been the leading networking platform in D-A-CH for national and international players in the digitization of the construction, real estate and infrastructure sectors. With speeches from 150 experts around the world about topics surrounding sustainability and innovations for the future our focus was on direct contact with customers, colleagues and partners.

“We are always delighted to be part of the Finnish Pavilion at BIM World Munich for the opportunity to talk to BIM Managers, students, fellow software companies as well as our customers and partners. As an open technology platform our goal is to collaborate – with customers, machine control systems, surveying companies, integration partners and universities. BIM World has all that in a very familiar setting. We were able to discuss industry workflows and ways to improve efficiency and sustainability in infra projects while learning how to refine our products even more. ” Nils Spannuth Sales Manager Infrakit Deutschland GmbH recalls.

Teemu Kivimäki Founder and CEO of Infrakit Group Oy said, “The highlight for me this time was having the opportunity to meet and talk to our stakeholders face to face to discuss further cooperation in the future and gain more insight into their needs and wants”.

National road 4 is scheduled to open 8 months ahead of schedule

National road 4 is scheduled to open 8 months ahead of schedule

Project Manager Jarmo Niskanen from Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency reveals that they are hoping to be move traffic to the new road on December 20th or 21st . (YLE 7.12.2021)

According to Niskanen the move to the new stretch of road has been carefully planned of time with dozens of people communicating with each other while the obstacles are being removed.

“We will have a car leading the line from both ends of the road to start the traffic. Neither Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency nor the contractor will organize a special opening for the road.” says Niskanen.

“The low temperatures are causing some delays so we can’t say for sure when the road will be opened. We are in the middle of installing important railings, without them the road can’t be used. All other aspects of the road have been completed,” Niskanen describes.

The opening day will be confirmed on December 15th according to Niskanen. At the latest the road is set to be opened in January, up to 8 months ahead of schedule.

Main contractor on the project is Destia.

Autodesk and Infrakit Connect Civil Infrastructure Project Design and Construction

Autodesk and Infrakit Connect Civil Infrastructure Project Design and Construction

For a better information flow during their project lifecycle, stakeholders require open formats that improve collaboration and reduce the risk of losing and recompiling data. Autodesk and Infrakit established a partnership to bridge gaps between project phases with open data exchange formats. Infrakit will now enable the use of 3D designs from Autodesk’s civil engineering design tools, Autodesk® Civil 3D® and Autodesk® InfraWorks®. Users can exploit and validate the 3D Designs in construction work through the Infrakit cloud platform.

This integration with Autodesk leading technologies will allow customers to forward checked designs to field solutions like Machine Control systems (MC) through Infrakit to create and ensure common understanding among stakeholders. MC uses data from sources such as 3D models to guide construction equipment during earth works. Users can ensure the improvement of safety, efficiency and quality while also reducing environmental impacts, schedule, and costs.

This partnership together, along with progress in open data exchange formats, enables more connected data and information workflows from design to construction. Enhancing our customers’ ability to collaborate and ensuring seamless flow of information regardless of vendors and service providers is crucial for accuracy and timeliness of project outcomes.

“The buildingSMART Infrastructure Room has been working with industry stakeholders and the Railway Room to develop IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) extensions for infrastructure to include roads, bridges, marine and rail entities. There is a clear need to improve information exchange between disciplines and across the project lifecycle into asset operations in order to leverage improving technology capabilities without a need to recreate data at each stage” said Marek Suchocki, Chair of the buildingSMART International Infrastructure Room Project Steering Committee and Autodesk Global Business Development Executive. “Technology providers have been fully engaged in the developing, testing and implementation of this international standard to better demonstrate seamless data exchanges that will improve the adoption of open formats resulting in better project outcomes and fewer errors or rework. This will ultimately make the whole infrastructure industry more productive and sustainable and bodes well for the future.”

Connecting the communication gaps between project phases helps stakeholders avoid wasted resources and expensive errors, providing them with the latest plans and schedules. Customers using Infrakit can now benefit from syncing design models from Civil 3D and InfraWorks with machine control systems. This seamless approach will enhance quality and monitor as-built progress reported from the field in real-time.  Additionally, when quality documentation builds up into the system, it can be easily handed over to asset information management – digitally.

“We are excited to partner with Autodesk, a technology leader in our industry, to provide our mutual customers with enhanced data flow from design phase to the construction phase.” – Teemu Kivimäki Founder and CEO of Infrakit Group Oy. “Many customers are using products from both companies and are looking to build a workflow that requires fluid data transfer between them.”

“The convergence of design and construction workflows coupled with the digital transformation of the AEC industry is delivering great value to infrastructure projects. We are pleased to be in a position to help our customers realize this value through our partnership with Infrakit” – Eric DesRoche, Sr. Manager AEC Design Strategy at Autodesk.
